Went to The Purple Cow for lunch today. Aside from the mass of squealing, writhing children running under foot/hanging off the chandeliers (not that I don’t like kids, but dozens of them hyped up on cola and ice cream in an enclosed space can be less than completely pleasant), a very enjoyable experience. As you might guess, 90 percent of everything in the restaurant is purple, from the walls to the menus to the milkshakes. What isn’t purple is a very nice, complementary blue.
Didn’t try one, but they also advertise “adult milkshakes.” Example: the Grasshopper cocktail in milkshake form. Non-alcoholic milkshakes are available, of course, in purple.
There’s also a jukebox and, perhaps, other fun things to play with. I’m not sure as, again, the place was crawling with kidlets and I didn’t feel like trying wade through them to get a better look.
The burgers are excellent. Huge and thoroughly cooked but not overdone. Very filling. Wheat buns and various kinds of cheeses are available. Definitely good enough that they’re worth going in and sitting down to eat, though they don’t necessarily taste like they came off someone’s backyard grill the way a burger from Jake’s Hamburgers would. On the other hand, they’re not super-greasy, either, and with the wheat bun you definitely feel like you’re eating at least a bit healthier than you otherwise could be. Also, they have potato chips available as an alternative to French Fries, so you can also feel a little healthier when it comes to your fried burgery side item.
Peace out.
Edit 17 Apr 2009 3:56 PM CDT: Fixed the Jake’s Hamburgers link. Was pointing at the wrong Jake’s. Oops.
